Oil Painting for Cheapskates and Beginners

okey doke.

this is a 30 page full color zine full of pictures and explanations on how i oil paint. (oh and plus i work through a painting with explanations in the zine)

i said how *i* oil paint - which may be different from how other people oil paint. i haven't taken any classes or anything - i just learned by trying it out and it's worked out pretty good for me, so i thought i'd share it with you.

i've heard sooo many people say that they want to oil paint but they can't afford it, or that it seems too hard - and i always want to holler, "it's sooooo much easier and cheaper!"

plus, the whole clean up excuse? i'll shoot holes in that too (:

thus, this is a zine on oil painting for beginners and cheapskates.

but wait. listen. i am not a professional zine maker or anything. i make zines the same way i did when i was a kid - duct tape and photographs.

so basically, i made this by hand and then photocopied it. that also means that i was only able to print on one side of the paper. boo.

me and photoshop aren't friends.

also, it's all handwritten and printed on my own printer.

but i think i did a pretty nice job and i think you'll be really pleased with it.

anyway. no complaining because it's good solid information and i don't hold anything back because i hate when people hold back. what is that about anyway?

okay, so also i work through a little portrait with you in the zine (the portrait shown on the cover) and i explain what colors i use.

this is particularly important for all of you guys who ask me what colors i use for my portraits because the palette that i use for this portrait is the exact same that i use for all of my oil portraits (lately)

keep in mind that this is a whimsy portrait - this is not an advanced realism portrait, so anyone will be able to do this if you keep an open mind and give it a fair shot.

**i have seven of these left**

they are in my etsy shop and are $21 each.

they were really time consuming and expensive to make so once these last ones are gone
they are gone. gone. gone.

They can be purchased here.

keeping the house clown free

today i woke up this morning to discover that sometime in the night the cats had jumped through the screen door (of course breaking through the 'pet proof' metal screen) and all gotten outside.

i saw the ripped out screen and just felt sick.

all of them, little wimps.

they can't handle it out there in the wild.

they have their claws, but they are spoiled and have all gone to fat.

plus the dogs.

frisbee is so old and moose... well, okay moose would probably be okay.

chibi was with me of course.

but you know what?

they were all of them just sitting at the door.

looking at me like,

'hey.  are you going to repair this?  a bird could fly right in here.  so could a serial killer clown'

so i fixed it and counted them

(all there. six cats, three dogs and zero clowns)

and all was right with my world.
