mixed media me -
a self portrait for week 15 for my inside out self portrait class.
I've made a video to go with this - so that you can do it if you want to.
It's too long for youtube - i'll load it onto inside out (yes. it's free - you can join) and i'll also make it available for download on bliptv.

Do you see the times and the link? good! good!
It is a gift. From me. To everyone.
I want to smash down all barriers that stand in the way of people making the art they want and deserve to make.
Please
read it.
Please.
be there.
Please.
spread the word.
Share it wherever.
Let's pass artiness around and get it to everyone.
Let's make everything arty and awesome and happy.
I will be loading some templates and supply lists for you when they are necessary.
I am very excited.
I will do all that i can to make art and information and techniques available to everyone.
We all deserve art, right?
If you have good information or are not shy and would like to share a tutorial or host a portion of a workshop, please Please contact me via email: amy@amymcdonald.net
I think the best thing we can do is share what we know.
So please. If you know good stuff (and you do)
and are willing to share your good information, let me know.
Let's make a free arty information revolution.
Please.

It is taking FOREver to finalize and load to blip.
You can see it on inside out, and i will post instructions for downloading it from blip tomorrow.

16 insanely flattering remarks:
Love it!! Fabulous self portrait Amy.
Hugs xx
p.s. do you think anyone would be interested in making embellishments from soft drink cans? I could do a tutorial on that if you like? Would that fit with the Artiness theme?

Good for you, taking Judy's class. I really like her work and she live about 10 miles from me. I've not taken her studio classes but I would love to and I did think about the on line class but, unfortunatly, I can't take them all! Looking forward to what you are going to be doing...is it going to involve duck tape????
This self portrait is soooo good!!!
You know, that's one thing I haven't attempted yet.
I love your mouth and the blue...
I just asked to join Inside Out. I'd really like to see the video :)
you are such a creative talented soul with so much energy about making art that you are truly an inspiration,, you're really something you are.You just sparkle and shine,,
Damn cool self portrait girl!!!! Duck tape and all :)
Self portrait rocks my socks!
VIVA LA REVOLUTION!!!!!
I've spent years trying to convince my family and friends that art is in the heart(though uni/college would have been fun). If I had a £ for every time someone said to me "you should be selling your stuff" I'd be very rich, but soulless. That's not to slag off people who do make a living from art, kudos to you all, but it is not me. As soon as I start asking for money I have a major guilt trip....if someone likes something I've made I want them to have it :S
Fabulous you Amy!! for doing free arty inspiration! I have actually met people who when I asked"how did you get that effect? It's gorgeous" told me if I paid for a class I'd find out!! How rude! Needless to say I didn't. a few days later I met another business woman who was more than happy to give a little free advice and we've been friends ever since :D XXX
I am going to start again, inside out over again... I love doing my face, your face is better... but it's yours, so after my mum goes home, I'll 'do' mine again, I'm busy eating, drinking gin & tonics etc because it's my birthday weekend and gambling because it's another one of my passions along with art, only you can make more money gambling, but also lose more, so I'll get back to art, and I have a confession, I only just sent off your Zombie necklace... you may have it in time for Halloween 2012... blame it on the G&T's... Oh yeah, & because this is your blog & I'm just doing a tipsy visit, I better tell you, YOU ARE AWESOME... because it's true, & I love your art, like you plaster a little piece of your soul on each canvas... very cool... v e r y cool...
You should check out some YouTube videos on begginer encaustic. It's awesome! I wish I could do it. But I find everything so messy. Combined with my cats' hair all over the place I don't think that would come out good.
I'll go and check out that video now. I used duck tape to make a journal once. It's awesome. The only bad thing is it's hard to paint over it.
I'm going to start from the beginning like Sunshineshelle. Get my stuff here sorted out first and then am doing this.
Love your self portrait - love ALL your self portraits!
I have done a live video post on my blog, which actually means I've stolen everything from your blog and put it on mine. Scream at me if you want it taken down, any of it!
Gorgeous!
Inside and outside.
Upside down.
And wow! You can keep a person very busy here...so much to do!
I will link you. And I will watch. Just not today. But I willllll
♥♥♥
Love this. I'm going to send you an email (and hopefully not one of the long, rambly ones that I have a tendency to write! Ha!)
xo
Kristin
p.s. Why isn't rambly a word? It should be.
i LOVE your self portrait. the eyes... and those little dots on the duct tape. love them.
i will spread the word about your workshop!
you are beautiful...
xoxo
This is a powerful self portrait - I could tell immediately it was you!
So, you wanted to know about what went into my blue lady... OK, here we go. Background acrylics - mostly applied in layers using a brayer. First layer of face - charcoal. Next up more acrylics and some coloured pencil... but not just any pencil... oh no, we're talking Derwent Inktense. Then it got a bit odd looking so we went for more acrylic over the top of that. Then some more pencil, and finally oil pastel. What you can't see from the latest picture I posted is the splash of colour she got this evening! (more oil pastels - I pulled out some oranges and yellows).
Phew... I feel quite worn out. I was tempted to add a bit of stamping but managed to hold myself back!
Oh yes, and I meant to say I will of course be doing my best to attend your live course on Weds (once I find out what CET time might be in English!)
